Last night was the 3rd annual Hunka Hunka Burning Lights event at the Zippin Pippin roller coaster. August 8th marks the anniversary of Elvis’ last ride on the Zippin Pippin (located in Memphis at the time) and the only day of the year that the coaster can be ridden after dark. Elvis’ 8/8/77 last ride occurred just eight days before his death. As the story goes, Elvis rented the entire Libertyland Park in Memphis and rode the roller coaster for hours straight throughout the night. He lost a belt buckle that night that was returned the next day.
