Green Bay

Changing Seasons

Green Bay has been the cultural hub of the region all of my life. That’s not saying much but you make the best of the hand you are dealt. For a City with such a long history, there are unfortunately few examples left of the architecture from nostalgic and bygone eras. The Brown County Courthouse in downtown Green Bay is one of very few buildings around with that classically iconic looking architecture of the early United States, even if it was built in 1908. If it takes 150 years for architectural styles to find there way to Green Bay… there is a joke here somewhere. Cultural trends do seem to be coming to Green Bay a bit faster as of late. Few can deny the positive re-birth, or Renaissance if you will, of the downtown. I hope the powers that be take care of this little jewel and it’s nostalgic American style.

Lighthouse Pr0n

Some of my lighthouse photos have been gaining attention from tourism marketers.
The Lighthouse stands alone and tall in both light and darkness and it, along with its beacon, is a focal point which symbolizes strength, guidance and safe harbor; it is a spiritual welcome mat for all those who are traveling by sea.

Sea Dragon

There be dragons here!

Sometimes I am having too much fun and I shouldn’t call it a job. The Bay Beach Park crew installed the dragon heads and tested the ride (see awkward video here). The Sea Dragon is the latest installment of Bay Beach Amusement Park and is located right in front of Elvis’ favorite ride, the Zippin Pippin.

Green Bay Tall Ships

The Green Bay Tall Ships Festival was this past weekend and better weather couldn’t have been asked for. This three-day maritime festival features ship tours and day-sail excursions on nine tall ships.

What are Tall Ships? A tall ship is a large traditionally rigged sailing vessel. Popular modern tall ship rigs include topsail schooners, brigantines, brigs, and barques. Traditional rigging may include square rigs and gaff rigs, with separate topmasts and topsails.

Bike Safety Rodeo at Lambeau Field

If you follow the news closely, it’s easy to overlook the positive things a community does.

Today children were given a chance  to learn about bike safety and get free bike helmets at Packers Training Camp. The first 500 children at the rodeo received a free bike helmet.  Kids who already had helmets were able to get them properly fitted. They also got the chance to ride through a bike safety course. This is the second year I have attended this event.

This image has been a sleeper hit finding its way into a number of publications including Lakeland Boating Magazine and the Milwaukee Business Journal.

UPDATE 11/14: The image was recently featured by NBC during the Packers vs. Bears game. There is been more interest in some of my downtown Green Bay Waterfront images, so here are a few more.
